200 years in the past a country named The United Federation of America was formed by patriots of a colonial war. They believed in a government formed in democracy in which all voices were heard and listened to. Humans, trolls, mermaids and alike could live with true freedom without persecution. The country had many states with vastly unique cultures and economies. For many years the country lived in relative peace, with only brief instances of violence.Yet in their time during a leading world power they acquired many enemies who sought to destroy the UFA. These foreign beings attacked using every weapon imaginable, decimating the country within a matter of years. When the war ended the world was different; broken, left in ruin and ash for everyone who remained. A new government formed by survivors with one leading mission: Banning all day-to-day magic. Except, for one unregulated day of the year.This law passed with sweeping votes from the public who were largely traumatized by the great war. The New Founding Fathers became the de facto leading party, having no other remaining major political competition. “Purge Night” is considered a massive success with there being lower unemployment and passive crime throughout the nation. The holiday is not without pushback, but has so far happened every year for the last 23 years.
